Publisher’s blue cloth. - The celebrated collection of books on Greece and the Levant. “Many of the highest prices appeared to be the result of competition between a Turkish collector and the Turkish Ministry of Culture. With the help of these and other bidders the sale total was £2,600,000, a sum considerably in excess of the most sanguine pre-sale estimates” (John Collins, in Bulletin du bibliophile, 1990, no. 1, p.263). Additional books from the Blackmer library were sold by Sotheby’s on 3-4 and 13 July 1989. ¶ Annotated copy, partly priced.
