The author identifies about twenty different binderies and arranges his catalogue according to atelier, and within these the bindings are listed chronologically. “The plates of tools which follow the catalogue are its real treasure” (from a review by Mirjam Foot, in The Book Collector, Spring 1980, pp.122-125).
