Publisher’s printed wrappers. - Catalogue for an exhibition of some sixty volumes from a collection of about 1000 American bindings assembled by the New York bookseller Michael Papantonio (1907-1978). Although many binding centres are not represented, for the first time a large number of early American bindings (61 catalogue entries) are illustrated and given attributions based on systematic research. Most of the collection was bequeathed by Papantonio to the American Antiquarian Society. Donald C. Dickinson, Dictionary of American Book Collectors (New York 1986), pp.250-251. A second edition was published in 1985 (ISBN 0912296755). ¶ Wrappers lightly dust-soiled; otherwise a very good, unmarked copy.
