These books were acquired in a sale of Blumenbach’s library held in Göttingen on 27 July 1840 (Verzeichniß der vom weil. Obermedicinalrath Blumenbach nachgelassenen Bücher : welche Montags den 27. Juli 1840 und an den folgenden Tagen Abends von 6 bis 8 Uhr in der Wohnung des Univ.-Gerichts-Procurators Fr. Just. Schepeler an der Jüdenstraße meistbietend verkauft werden sollen. Göttingen: Menzel, 1840) and stayed in the family, moving to Zurich, then to America, where (at Lake Leelanau, Michigan) Norman found them.
