[Stock catalogues, numbered series: 4] Stampe e cultura senese… : Stampe popolari

    Lugano, Bredford Libri Rari, 1995
(25 cm), 100 (4) pp., illustrations (some in 2 colours). 91 items. Price list inserted. Publisher’s printed wrappers. - Items 1-40 (Stampa e cultura senese) are described by Francesco Radaelli; items 41-91 (Stampe popolari) are described by Edoardo Barbieri. “All of them were rare, some unique, especially those in the first section of books from or about Siena. Predictably, a number were already sold before the catalogue appeared. It remains, however, a document of lasting value, to be shelved alongside the Fairfax Murray and Hofer catalogues” (The Book Collector, Summer 1995, p.242). ¶ Fine, unmarked copy.

[Stock catalogues, numbered series:] 5: Romanzi di cavalleria : poemi epici : Tassiana

    Lugano, Bredford Libri Rari, 1997
(25 cm), [120] pp., illustrations (some in colour). 137 items. Price list inserted. Publisher’s printed wrappers. - “Con la collaborazione del dott. Edoardo Barbieri”. “The great names were there: Amadis of Gaul, Gyron le Courtois, Palmerin of Greece, Ogier le Danois, Tirante il bianco. So were the great books: Orlando Innamorato and Furioso, Morgante Maggiore, above all Gierusalemme Liberata, the subject of a special section… Almost all the books were by definition rarissima - the first three illustrated editions of Orlando Furioso… Pulci Driadeo c. 1506, the splendid Morgante Maggiore 1532, and, grandest of all, the altogether unknown and unrecorded La Spagna Historiata 1507, at $18,000 the most expensive book (not previously sold) listed in the catalogue. Admirably printed, lovingly described, it lived up to its contents – another for the reference shelf” (from a notice in The Book Collector, Summer 1997, p.259). ¶ Lower wrapper creased; otherwise a fine, unmarked copy.

    Lugano, Bredford Libri Rari, [2005]
(29.5 cm), [132] pp., illustrations (some in colour). 277 items. Price list inserted. - “Some idea of its depth and strength can be gauged from the fact that 160 of its 277 items were printed inside the sixteenth century. It began with a rarissimum, Poliziano Cose volgari, Bologna, [per Caligula di Bazaleri] 1503 (€16,000), but other great names followed in abundance, Ariosto (ten early editions), Aretino, Trissino, Rucellai, Giraldi Cinzio, Machiavelli (Clizia 1548, €10,000), Alamanni and Dolce are all there in abundance… This was a truly remarkable collection, the best since the young Carlo Alberto Chiesa’s Teatro italiano del cinquecento in 1954” (from a notice in The Book Collector, Spring 2006, pp.91-92). “Alla redazione del catalogo ha collaborato Laura Nicora”. ¶ Fine, unmarked copy.
