Edoardo Barbieri”. “The great names were there: Amadis of Gaul, Gyron le Courtois, Palmerin of Greece, Ogier le Danois, Tirante il bianco. So were the great books: Orlando Innamorato and Furioso, Morgante Maggiore, above all Gierusalemme Liberata, the subject of a special section… Almost all the books were by definition rarissima - the first three illustrated editions of Orlando Furioso… Pulci Driadeo c. 1506, the splendid Morgante Maggiore 1532, and, grandest of all, the altogether unknown and unrecorded La Spagna Historiata 1507, at $18,000 the most expensive book (not previously sold) listed in the catalogue. Admirably printed, lovingly described, it lived up to its contents – another for the reference shelf” (from a notice in The Book Collector, Summer 1997, p.259). ¶ Lower wrapper creased; otherwise a fine, unmarked copy.
