Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - Sale catalogue for the library of Charles Louis Adelaïde Henri Matheron, Baron de Curnieu (1811-1871), author of Leçons de science hippique générale (Paris 1855-1857). It contained (lot 120) an early 16th-century manuscript on vellum of “Nature & vertu des Chevaux”, formerly in the libraries of the duc de La Vallière and J.B. Huzard (latter’s sale, 26 June 1843, lot 3528; Bertrand Galimard Flavigny, Le livre roi: chroniques d’un bibliophile, 1978-1989, Paris 1989, pp.57-58); and a manuscript “Extratto da un libro de razza da cavalli del Re Ferrante Vechio de Aragona” (lot 144), dated 1541 (returned to the market in Sotheby’s, London, 5 December 1994, lot 85; now University of Pennsylvania, Lawrence J.
