Rauch worked before the War in the Paris office of Maggs Bros; in 1939, he returned in Switzerland, eventually becoming manager of F. Roth in Lucerne, and after 1947 trading under his own name, and absorbing the auction house founded by Kündig. This sale of modern French illustrated books went extremely well: Verlaine’s Parallèlement, illustrated by Bonnard, copy no. 47 of 170 on vélin de Hollande, 1900, brought £900; Eluard, À Toute Épreuve, wood engravings by Miró, 1958, a special copy with additional sets of plates, bound in morocco by P.L. Martin, £1850; Picasso’s fifteen early etchings, Les Saltimbanques, 1904-1905, brought £3000. ¶ Unmarked copy. Photocopy of List of Prices and buyers’ names loosely inserted.
