Publisher’s printed boards. - Catalogue of a collection of drawings assembled by Sir Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830), acquired by Francis Egerton, Earl of Ellesmere (1800-1857), and consigned for sale by his heirs. The total for the 98 lots was £472,160; five sheets were purchased by the British Museum (lots 5, 14, 25, 41, 73), two by the Ashmolean Museum (lots 6, 27) and 1 by the Fitzwilliam Museum (36). This is “Part I” of a two-part sale of the Ellesmere collection; the latter portion, offering “Drawings by Giulio Romano and other sixteenth-century masters: collected by Sir Thomas Lawrence”, was dispersed by Sotheby’s on 5 December 1972. ¶ Good, unmarked copy.
