Publisher’s printed wrappers. - “The first ‘book-wall’ by Philip Smith, comprising twenty-one volumes of The Lord of the Rings bound c. 1970 to form various designs, whether displayed together closed, open, or conventionally shelved, fetched £130,000” (from a saleroom report in The Book Collector, Autumn 2003, pp.386-389). The extensive literary archive of Vita Sackville-West failed to sell (estimate £150,000-£200,000). Also includes property of Lord Hodgson, Desmond Hawkins, Richard Chopping, Nigel Nicolson. ¶ Annotated copy, partly priced.
