Publisher’s printed wrappers. - The sale included a group of books from the Pillone Library lots 9-16): Pickering paid £531,250 for the 1475 Vicenza Ptolemy; four books were sold at hammer prices ranging between £50,000-£100,000 each; and three bindings were bought in. “Three early Cervantes texts, the 1605 first part of Don Quixote, bound in red morocco for Charles de Valois, £200,000, the 1615 second part in contemporary limp vellum, an unbelievable £320,000, and Andrew Fletcher’s Ochos Comedias 1615, in non-contemporary Dutch vellum, £80,000” (from a saleroom report in The Book Collector, Spring 2001, p.89). ¶ Occasional pencil annotation.
