Publisher’s grey cloth, pictorial dust jacket. - The Audubon is a subscriber’s copy, collected by the landowner and MP George Lane Fox (1793-1848), who bound it in four volumes about 1838. The set remained in the family until consigned by Fox’s great-grandson to Sotheby’s in 1909, where it was purchased by Bernard Quaritch, and afterwards sold to John, fourth Marquess of Bute (1881-1947).
