Christie’s had previously sold early books and manuscripts from the Shuckburgh Library on 4 April 1962; notable single volumes were sold by Christie’s, 8 December 1982 (vellum copies of the 1462 Bible and 1516 Mainz Psalter), 2003 (sale by private treaty of the 1460 Mentelin Bible to the Scheide Library, Princeton University), and 25 May 2016 (four Shakespeare folios; another Schuckburgh copy of the Second Folio was sold at Phillips, 17 November 2000).
