Publisher’s printed wrappers. - “The [Federico] Vogelius collection on Buenos Aires and southern Latin America sold for respectable prices, the lively primitive colour lithograph genre subjects of Bacle (1833-5) making £7000, a substantial De Bry £40,000 (Israel), and eight lots, each of 3-5 pieces of the Imprenta de Niños Expositos about £600 each. The fourth, Rome, edition of the Magellan, Epistola, 1524 went to Quaritch for £15,500. The Paraguayan Mission imprints disappointed, but Insaurralde’s Spanish printed Guarani, Araporu aguiyey haba, 1759-60, reached £2800, and Thevet, Les singularitez de la France antarctique, 1558, last seen at the Du Pont sale, made £10,000 (Chamonal)” (from saleroom report in The Book Collector, Autumn 1993, pp.402-405). ¶ Annotated copy, partly priced.
