Publisher’s printed wrappers. - The Library of the English academic John Sparrow (1906-1992). “John Sparrow had the most sophisticated taste of any book-collector of our time” (from an obituary in The Book Collector, Autumn 1992, pp.355-356; saleroom report in Spring 1993 issue, p.92). The collector made generous bequests to several institutions of books, papers, and pictures (cf. checklist of 50 volumes selected by the Bodleian, in The Bodleian Library Record, April 1993). A further portion of his library was sold by Christie’s South Kensington, 18 December 1992. ¶ Annotated copy, partly priced.
