Publisher’s laminated pictorial boards. - Consigned by the Norwegian businessman and manuscript collector, Martin Schøyen, and “most misguidedly” sold in New York: “The market was exclusively European: viewing at Amsterdam and Munich should have been followed by sale in London. As it was, the very fine illuminated Schoeffer Gratian (1472) made a respectable $220,000 [$242,000 inclusive of premium], but all too many books were bought in” (saleroom report in The Book Collector, Spring 1992, p.98).
