Two volumes (26.5 cm), I (19 October 1949): 44 (8) pp., colour frontispiece, 48 p. of black & white plates (pls.I-XLVIII). Lots numbered 1-150. List of estimates printed with text. II (25 September 1956): 71 (1) pp., 18 p. of black & white plates (pls.I-XVIII). Lots numbered 1-440. List of estimates loosely inserted. Publisher’s printed wrappers (colour onlay on upper wrapper of Première partie). - This library had been confiscated in May 1940 by the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg (ERR), a Nazi organisation appropriating cultural property, and restituted to Ellen Van Marx-May after 1946. Highlights of the first sale were the Elzevier Bible in a Magnus binding (lot 1, CHF 18,000) and the Gallerie des Modes et Costumes Français (Paris 1778-1787) with 378 plates by Watteau and others (lot 83, CHF 26,000, to Aubrey Rosenberg).
