Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - Residual stock of John Lyle, a specialist in books on cookery, nutrition, the social history of food and drink, who traded from a shop in Cathedral Yard in Exeter, and in later years from private premises near Sidmouth, Devon. Many of the books had come from the André Simon collection (saleroom report in The Book Collector, Autumn 2003, p.378). Lyle also dealt extensively in modern French books, was a committed advocate of Surrealism, and editor of the journal “Surrealist transforma(c)tion” (cf. Silvano Levy, The scandalous eye: the surrealism of Conroy Maddox, Liverpool 2003, pp.125-134). ¶ Unmarked copy.
