Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - “An amazing accumulation, largely unknown outside the trade” (saleroom report in The Book Collector, Winter 2010, p.616). Although mostly comprised of Italian books, the collection included (lot 325) the Edmée Maus copy of Rabelais, Tiers livre des faictz et dictz heroiques du noble Pantagruel (Paris 1546), bound in contemporary vellum, which realised €348,750 (estimate €18,000-23,000). The copy reappeared in Sotheby’s, Paris, sale of the Pierre Bergé collection, 11 December 2015. ¶ Annotated with viewing notes and prices.
