Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - Lots 149-198 are books and manuscripts from the Hartz collection; a previous sale of books from their library was conducted by Sotheby’s, New York, 23 October 1987. The top price was paid for Stetson–Hartz copy of Caxton’s Boethius (lot 159, $143,000). The previous session contained (lot 34, $121,000) the autograph manuscript of Einstein’s 1933 Glasgow lecture on “The origins of the general theory of relativity” and autograph letters of Vladimir Nabokov, Edgar Allan Poe, Frederick Remington, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Quincy Adams and Abraham Lincoln. ¶ Upper wrapper creased. Occasional annotation.
