Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - Includes the firm’s reference library (lots 291-666). “The great Goldschmidt sale made a respectable start with a substantial selection of the firm’s recent stock, but the real success came from the reference books, E.P. Goldschmidt’s own making spectacular prices, notably his six notebooks of visits to monasteries in Dalmatia and Austria in 1914-16 (£4600), the scrapbooks of bindings (£5000), and the five volume [sic] extra-illustrated Gothic and Renaissance Bookbindings (£2800) all to Maggs” (saleroom report in The Book Collector, Autumn 1993, p.402). ¶ Annotated copy.

Ltd, a mixture of art reference, bibliography, and the Company’s archive. An incomplete set of the firm’s Catalogues, Lists, and Supplements, issued 1924-1992, bound as 173 volumes, interleaved, recording buyers’ names, together with approximately 50 volumes of Supplements and Lists, made £6200 (lot 124). Maggs bought the firm’s trays of “slips”, on which were recorded the many thousands of books handled by the firm, for £1600 (lot 128). ¶ Unmarked copy.
