Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - “In the first part of the Bute sale, English literature and history, with long runs of English Bibles and Bunyan, Quaritch carried almost all before them” (from a saleroom report in The Book Collector, Autumn 1995, pp.378-381). Previous dispersals of the Bute Library were conducted by Sotheby’s: the library at Dumfries House, Ayrshire, was sold 3-4 July 1961 and 16-18 October 1961; and the “Bute collection of forty-two illuminated manuscripts and miniatures” was sold 13 June 1983. ¶ Annotated copy, partly priced.
