Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - “An exciting sale, and an exhausting one” of the residual stock and personal collection of John Brett-Smith (1917-2003), erstwhile partner of Michael Papantonio in the Seven Gables Bookshop, New York (1972-1980), thereafter trading privately from his home in Princeton. “His appreciation of the literature of the period was matched by scholarship and a passion for association copies and bindings… During his lifetime John sold his all but complete collection of Restoration plays to Cambridge University Library, which was relatively weak in this field along with a selection of poetical miscellanies” (quotations from saleroom report in The Book Collector, Autumn 2004, pp.444-445). ¶ Pencil annotations.
