Publisher’s printed wrappers. - “The Virgil [lot 4], written by Antonio de’ Toffi and illuminated by Francesco del Chierico, as fine a humanistic manuscript as any sold in the last fifty years, made £1,200,000, and might well have gone for more… The plate books were dominated by a single buyer, reputed to be the same Middle Eastern buyer who has swept all before him on previous occasions” (from a saleroom report in The Book Collector, Autumn 2002, pp.440-441). ¶ Annotated copy, partly priced.
