Publisher’s green printed wrappers. - The sale contained both issues of the first edition of Newton’s Principia (lots 371-372, both bought by Dawson, £2400 and £2200 respectively) and a presentation copy (to Littleton Powys, 1648-1732) of the third edition (lot 374, bought by Zeitlin, £900); a presentation copy (to the tea merchant Godfrey) of Hooke’s Micrographia (lot 261, bought by Dawson, £2600), and two books from Hooke’s library; fine copies of Boyle, Huygens, Galileo, etc. Other volumes from Professor Andrade’s library were included in subsequent Sotheby sales, e.g. 7-8 February 1972. ¶ Unmarked copy.
