The 15th century Genoese portolan of the Mediterranean made £286,000 (”Barnes”), and an early 17th century Portuguese chart including America made £330,000 (”Costa”), “but the prices paid for the others were scarcely less astonishing” (from saleroom report, in The Book Collector, Summer 1988, p.244). ¶ Annotated copy, partly priced.
