Publisher’s printed wrappers. - The private collection of the bookseller Harry Pratley (1905-1987), who went to work for Hall’s Bookshop in Tunbridge Wells in 1919, became proprietor in 1936, and retired from active management in 1967. Of the nearly 1000 lots, “most had something special to recommend them, not always spotted by Sotheby’s. The trade were clearly delighted and fell on them, only a few books selling below estimate and many for far more” (saleroom report in The Book Collector, Spring 1988, pp.100-101. ¶ Annotated copy, partly priced.
