Publisher’s printed wrappers. - “The one extraordinary offering was a collection of Oxford Almanacks [lot 81], from the earliest of 1674 in an almost unbroken run up to 1850, which made £7,500 (Goldschmidt)” (from a saleroom report in The Book Collector, Spring 1987, pp.103-104). The Bond Street picture-dealer Peter Mitchell purchased on behalf of a British collector Gould’s Birds of Australia [lot 203] (£126,500), Mammals of Australia [lot 204] (£52,800), Birds of Asia [lot 205] (£48,400), and Birds of Europe [lot 193] (£41,800); the Roxburghe–Fitzwilliam copy of Lewin Birds of Great Britain [lot 231] made £25,000 (Sims Reed & Fogg). The sale totalled £1,285,460 with 1% left unsold. ¶ Annotated copy, partly priced. No price list.
