Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - All the works are drawn from a single private collection of remarkable quality and range, assembled by the Milanese engineer Cesare Morini (1931-2013). Highlights, including the Tiepolo’s Raccolta di teste (Parts I and II), 1773-1774, a bound set of sixty etchings and three engraved text plates, were purchased by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, in 2014. “One series I have never seen before (cat. nos. 25-32) contains eight of a numbered series of at least twelve plates that contain distorted heads (anamorphoses) in the shape of a fan-shaped semi-circle. All are hand-coloured; most have the etched signature ‘Costa’, but there is no other lettering” (Antony Griffiths, in Print Quarterly, volume 22, 2005, p.312); these etchings by Giovanni Francesco Costa (1711-1773) are aslo now in Washington, via Stanza del Borgo, Milan (New Century Fund, 2014.176.1-2014.176.8). Catalogue also published in Italian by the Museo Cantonale d’Arte, Lugano, where the exhibition continued, 17 September 2005-8 January 2006 (translation by Antonia Nessi, Marco Franciolli, Linda Di Mare). ¶ As new.
