Publisher’s pictorial wrappers; in the publisher’s slipcase. - The Spanish Government contended that the export (in 1983) of Goya’s portrait of Doña Joaquina Téllez-Girón y Pimentel, Marquise of Santa Cruz (1784-1851), had been illegal, and after a tremendous fuss the painting was withdrawn from the auction, and sold to the Spanish government for $6m (Christie’s had predicted a sale price in excess of $10m). It is now Museo del Prado, Inv. 7070. ¶ Annotated, partly priced.
