Publisher’s printed wrappers. - Michelangelo’s “Study of a Mourning Woman” (lot 81), discovered by Julien Stock of Sotheby’s “while flicking through a scrapbook”, realised £5.9 million. Also sold were four exceptional 16th century heraldic gouaches, probably from Nuremberg (lots 37-38, 40-41); and a fine group of architectural drawings from a French private collection (lots 231-242). Lots 93-147 are frames. Named consignors include Trustees of the Will of George Howard, Baron Howard of Henderskelfe, JP (1920-1984); Heirs of Professor I. Q. van Regteren Altena (1899-1980); William and Patricia Redford Collection. Annotated copy, partly priced.
