Old Master drawings (catalogue for an auction conducted by Sotheby’s, New York, 13 January 1988)
New York, Sotheby’s, 1988
(27 cm), 128 (4) pp., illustrations (some in colour). 295 lots. Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - Lots 1-62 (”The Property of a Lady”) “were removed from an album which was probably compiled in Rome in the mid-18th century. It is particularly noteworthy for the large number of drawings by Giovanni Battista Beinaschi which seem to be studies which he used, with variations, in commissions executed both in Naples and in Rome… The contents of the album suggest that it was compiled by a collector, perhaps directly from an artist’s studio, in Rome” (from Catalogue foreword). Named consignors include Harold A.E. Day (lots 78-82), Theodore Allen Heinrich, Rudolph Ritter von Gutmann (1880-1966; Lugt 2770); Family Trust of the late Lord Clark of Saltwood. ¶ Unmarked copy.
