Gardens on paper : prints and drawings, 1200-1900 (catalogue of an exhibition held at the National Gallery of Art, 1 April-22 July 1990)

Washington, DC, National Gallery of Art / University of Pennsylvania Press, 1990
(29.5 cm), 179 pp., numerous illustrations (28 in colour). 106 catalogue entries. Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - “The five chapters trace the theme of the garden as it developed in Western art from the ‘Middle Ages’ (here, with one exception, exclusively fifteenth-century examples) through to the nineteenth century. Prints, either separate sheets or book illustrations, account for the better part of the illustrations, especially for the early periods, with drawings and watercolours appearing more often in the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century discussions” (Print Quarterly, volume 8, March 1991, p.67). ¶ Very good, unmarked copy.
