Publisher’s pictorial wrappers. - Most of the drawings come from the collections of Spanish painters of the later-nineteenth century, notably Valentín Carderera y Solano, a “pittore modesto, ma importante collezionista di disegni dell’Ottocento” (p.35), whose heirs sold his collection to the Biblioteca Nazionale di Madrid in 1940; and Manuel Castellano (1828-1880). Carderera is the source for albums of drawings by Giovanni Vincenzo Casale (1539-1593) and by Giovanni Battista Montano (1534-1621). Based on Dibujos de arquitectura y ornamentación de la Biblioteca Nacional siglos XVI y XVII (Madrid 1991). ¶ Wrappers creased. Few splashes of printers’ ink on endpapers. Very good, unmarked copy.
