A catalogue of Simon’s own library, collected over a period of more than fifty years, and presented by him to the Wine and Food Society, of which he was Founder and President. This volume contains 1644 entries for books published up to 1861, the year in which the first edition of Mrs Beeton’s Book of Household Management appeared; the projected second volume, recording the later books, never appeared. There is an excellent subject-index divided under 51 headings, and including such diverse entries as carving, polenta, toasts, tobacco and truffles. The collection was sold by Sotheby Parke Bernet & Co., London, 18 May 1981. ¶ Copy 527 of 750. Significant losses to dust jacket.
