Publisher’s cloth. - A standard tool for understanding the provenance of works on paper, recording and illustrating the stamped and written marks of public and private collections, marks used by dealers, mounters, printers, publishers and engravers, as well as studio and estate stamps (5215 in total). For every mark, Lugt wrote an entry presenting details about the collector or institutional collection. The first volume is a facsimile reprint of the previous Amsterdam 1921 edition. ¶ Fine copies.
