Master drawings: the Woodner Collection (catalogue of an exhibition held at the Royal Academy of Arts, 1987)
London, Royal Academy of Arts / Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1987
(34 cm), 304 pp., 111 plates (some in colour). Publisher’s cloth, dust jacket. - A selection of 111 masterworks from the collection of the American real estate developer Ian Woodner, “the foremost private collection of Master Drawings in the United States today” (from the Introduction, by Nicholas Turner). The catalogue is organised by school, and within each school chronologically by artist. An exhibition of 77 of Woodner’s drawings, organised and catalogued by George Goldner, had previously been shown in Malibu, Fort Worth and Washington, DC. After the collector’s death, “the core” of the collection (143 of about 1000 drawings) was gifted to the National Gallery of Art (re-catalogued as The Touch of the Artist: Master Drawings from the Woodner Collections, edited by M. Morgan Grasselli, Washington, DC 1995). ¶ Fine copy.
