Prints and related drawings by the Carracci family : a catalogue raisonné (published in conjunction with an exhibition, National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, 18 March-20 May 1979)

Washington, DC, National Gallery of Art, 1979
(28 cm), 533 (3) pp., over 500 illustrations. Publisher’s printed wrappers. - Catalogue raisonné of the printed oeuvres of the Carracci brothers Agostino (1557-1602) and Annibale (1560-1609), and of their cousin, Ludovico (1555-1619). Bartsch had accepted 276 prints by Agostino, 18 by Annibale, and 5 by Ludovico; these totals were revised by Maurizio Calvesi and Vittorio Casale, in 1965, to 185, 23 and 5 prints, respectively. De Grazia Bohlin has a more inclusive conception of Agostino’s oeuvre (213 prints, plus 21 questioned), and gives 22 prints to Annibale, and 4 to Ludovico. A particular effort is made to trace the sources for the Carraccis’ reproductive engravings. ¶ Excellent, unmarked copy.
