Erasmusdrucke des 16. Jahrhunderts in Bayerischen Bibliotheken : Ein bibliographisches Verzeichnis (Hiersemanns bibliographische Handbücher, 1)

Stuttgart, Anton Hiersemann Verlag, 1979
(28 × 19 cm), xi, 565 pp. Publisher’s cloth. - 3898 volumes, comprising 1825 titles and approximately 1200 editions, were personally examined by the compiler; her search was conducted in 73 Bavarian libraries, among them the library of the humanist Christoph II Scheurl (1481-1542) of Fischbach, still intact in possession of the family. A striking feature of Bezzel’s census is her emphasis on recording provenance, and her book has much to contribute to the study of the way in which the Erasmus texts were disseminated. “A book which handles well, contains important information and deserves a place in the library of every ‘humanist’” (from the detailed review by Elly Cockx-Indestege, listing additions and corrections, in Quaerendo, volume 10, 1980, pp.345-350). ¶ Excellent, unmarked copy.
